Dashboard Confessional Live! in Manila

Guess who’s watching on her birthday? And it’s not just a mall tour, FYI!

Big D’s

April 30, 2010

I’ve always thought of myself as a non-conformist. In my book, the scruples of your average eccentric (who also goes by the titles Maverick, Oddball and Free Spirit) should be treated with gentle incredulity if not utmost respect. We are called individual for a reason. To each his own, I say.

How ever my mom succeeded in convincing me to celebrate a traditional and rather brown-nosed event is attributed mostly to my lack of balls (loosely translated, that means I whimper like a puppy when she starts imposing) and her knack for preying on the innocent (An exaggeration, I know. I love you, Mom!). So, here I am on the verge of swapping my pigtails and Mary Janes (which, in my opinion, never really go out of style) for the current vogue of ripped/sheer/see-through apparel and winged shoes (made popular by the Greek God Hermes) with the heavy weight of hesitation dragging me down. Wasn’t I just twelve yesterday?

But I’ve made my decision. Whatever reservations I had (or still have) about this whole affair has been trumped by the fact that my parents (by parents, I mean my darling mother) seem to believe that this will make a good and solid memory for my family — immediate or otherwise. Plus, a dash of compromise never fails to do its magic. Truth be told, I don’t mind the planning half as much as the actual debut (There, I said it). I’ve always been a sucker for creativity — picking palettes and meshing ideas — so I guess hitching a drive with the bandwagon won’t be as painful as I anticipate it to be. My mom plans to single-handedly execute everything due to the fact that I’ll be in Manila until a day before the party (Gasp!). I say, more power to you, my supermom.

I’m counting the days. Wish me luck, yes?

My big disiocho partay is right around the corner. I earnestly hope that, true to form, it struts itself on the 29th (two days after my real birthday) with an air of unconventional understated pizazz — just the way I like it.

For the nights we won't remember!

Because Friday habits die hard. We better be complete during version 3!

P.S. Thank you Tomic and Juju for gracing us with your awesome presence and Diego for chartering out your home.

I Confess

April 18, 2010

A Dashboard Confessional, that is.

You heard it right. They’re coming to Manila for a mall tour! The awesome alternative rock (or would you consider it indie rock?) band that brought to the world poignant melodic hits such as Vindicated, Screaming Infidelities, As Lovers Go, Stolen and, most recently, Belle of the Boulevard is stepping onto the tropical soil of the Pearl of the Orient Seas.

I am over-the-moon-absolutely-thrilled-and-ecstatic about this. It’s like my birthday came early.

Speaking of birthdays, the tentative schedule of their gig here is on my birthday (May 27) in Trinoma Mall. I might be back home in Iloilo by that time celebrating my big one-eight (insert I’m-not-sure-I-want-to-but-maybe-I-should face here). I want to curl up and die. I can’t miss Chris Carrabba. I can’t. I can’t.

I understand perfectly well that  it’s not a concert but .. still.

Solution: I have to make a pros and cons list about this whole fiasco I seem to be over-analyzing and (irritatingly) exaggerating.

On Shuffle

April 16, 2010

I have this nagging habit (by nagging I simply mean: I can’t help it!) of posting lines from songs as my status on Facebook.

As a rule, I usually have my iTunes on shuffle whenever I’m online (in my case always). And while I am caught in a hypnotic internet-induced state/spell, there always comes that split second when some random beat and one-liner disrupts my decrepit train of thought (6 or so hours in front of an inanimate computer screen does that to you). They say “music speaks to you”, but I’ve always thought I was more melody and rhythm than song lyrics. At any rate, I’ve always believed that good music is all about the blend and fusion rather than the individual “component parts”.

But I’m going off-topic.

On to the purpose of this blog: I’ve decided to create an On Shuffle page (see upper-right portion of this blog site). Think of it as a variation of a tweet – a music tweet, that is. I’ll try to update it as often as I can (I’m wearing a wry smile as I’m writing this), but, in case I don’t, I will also indicate the date (and time, maybe?) posted.

Cheers to spankin’ new ideas.
